This is an interesting article that hits close to home on several fronts, and is something I'm going to have to seriously ponder regarding my long term plans. I found this line in particular interesting:
Many people like to stay near where they were born. But many others would like to seek new opportunities—even, dare I say it, new experiences.I definitely stand with a foot firmly planted on either side of that line. At some point, I'll need to make a choice between the two and be ready to accept the sacrifice of the other, and the considerations in this article might make it even more difficult.

I know that dilema. Somedays I'm not sure that coming back to Michigan was a good idea, then I see Bridget playing with her grandpa or her cousins and I wonder how I could ever move anywhere else. Somewhere there has to be a job for a lawyer, right?
My Dad (41 years at FoMoCo) was totally pissed when I refused to move back to Michigan when my USAF duty was over and get a job with one of the Big Three. I much more preferred staying in the Atlanta area and pursuing my career in the Information Systems area.
Looking at what would have happened to me if I were working in the automobile industry in Michigan in the 1990s vs. how much I enjoyed a successful career designing information systems in Atlanta and then Seattle, I just have to tell the Old Man........I told you so!!!
I hear you on the living near home, or looking to places a little farther out there. Mark and I may need to move in the next 5 years and I have mixed feelings about it. I think seeing new places, exploring, meeting new people and testing your own boundaries is such an amazing experience. That said, sometimes the only thing I need is that comfort of my crazy family. Knowing they are nearby, it's a feeling like no other.
We shall see where the path leads.
Wish I could come visit in Ireland!
